Swim** YES! We are still running our popular Rockpool Excursions – and they fit even better with the new syllabus documents!!

The Marine Discovery Centre has celebrated 14 years of running primary school excursion programs, teaching over 37,000 children about the Sydney marine environment since 2002.

Here’s what teachers have said about these hands-on excursions:

"After 30 years of teaching I have found at long last the best excursion ever" – Ms Louise Gibson, Clovelly Public School YK 2011

Click here to download a sample timetable of activities (program runs 10am to 2pm +/- 30mins depending on travel flexibility – max of 4 classes or 132 stds each day). This new timetable is much more flexible, so please discuss the various options for different Units of Works, student ages and travel time constraints.

Hands-on excursions really bring units of work to life for students.
Our Marine Biologist Guides ensure your class not only achieves the syllabus outcomes but also has a fun day full of learning!
The guided Rockpool Discovery Tours are the highlight - a hands-on investigation of the genuinely ‘wild’ marine life that lives on the rockplatforms around Sydney. Discover the structure, function and amazing adaptations of these local marine organisms; discover our Aboriginal heritage through rock engravings and then link it all together by looking at man’s impact on our local environments through fun and education games on Bondi Beach.

*Bookings are essential & strictly limited by the availability of low tides. Minimum class charge of 20 students (33 max).

**Cost (ExGST): $15.00 pp in 2016; and $16:00 pp in 2017. Teachers and Adult Helpers FREE.

These fun-filled excursions are generously sponsored by SAFCOL Sustainable Tuna (buy No Nets tuna and kill NO turtles or dolphins!). They are also delivered with the generous assistance of our partners Waverley, Woollahra and Randwick Councils.

These comprehensive, fun-filled excursions ideally complement Units of Work focusing on Outcomes from the new Science & Technology Syllabus; in addition to the new Geography Syllabus; and PDHPE; as well as the Environmental Education Policy for Schools all in a highly engaging and entertaining day out at The Beach.

** Note: The Underwater Bondi Experience Centre in the front of Bondi Pavilion has had to close because of funding difficulties – it was open for 4.5 years and educated over 30,000 visitors during that time about the wonders of Sydney’s hidden underwater world – and most importantly; how to look after it. We are very proud of what it achieved and are very thankful to all our wonderful partners who helped realise the dream . Apologies for any inconvenience but we tried our hardest…….
